Who we help

Accountants for start-ups.

Starting out? We help you choose between sole trader and limited company, register with HMRC and Companies House, and set up records that work from day one.

Your first decisions, such as your business structure, your registrations and how you keep records, shape your tax bill and your workload for years. We help you get them right before the first deadline arrives.

What you need to stay on top of

  • Choose your structure

Sole trader, partnership or limited company. Each has different tax, paperwork and personal liability.

  • Register with HMRC

Sole traders register for Self Assessment by 5 October after their first tax year. A new company must tell HMRC within 3 months of starting to trade.

  • Set up your records

Use accounting software and a separate business bank account from the start.

  • Plan for tax

Set money aside for your first tax bills and know your first filing dates.

  • Funding

Lenders and investors expect a clear business plan with cash flow forecasts.

Frequently asked questions

Should I be a sole trader or a limited company?

It depends on your expected profits, how you plan to pay yourself and how much paperwork you are comfortable with. We compare both options with your figures before you decide.

Do I need to register for VAT straight away?

Only if your taxable turnover is expected to go over £90,000. Registering voluntarily can make sense if most of your customers are VAT-registered businesses.

Can you help us raise funding?

Yes. We prepare business plans and cash flow forecasts that lenders and investors expect to see.
